Our Understanding as an Autism Waiver Provider
People with autism live their lives using a “uniquely wired” brain that we call an Autistic Brain.
Consequently, they need to learn to cope with, and in many cases endure, everyday experiences that are very ordinary to others with neurotypical brains. People on the autism spectrum expend a great deal of energy “figuring out” what’s happening to them, and what they need to do next from moment to moment. Although people who use an Autistic Brain need extra support, it is clear they can learn.
While not every human being can learn skills to become a brain surgeon or astronaut,
it is important to remember that it may be possible for every human to learn skills
to help them become more independent and more self-reliant.
As caregivers and family members we can give people with autism a great gift.
We can see their possibilities and guide them to accomplish what they can without our help.
We can notice when they have learned even the smallest of skills and be ready
to acknowledge when they are relying on themselves to use those skills
to follow through with the choices they’ve made on their own.

POTENTIAL EMPLOYEES SHOULD KNOW
It is our experience that as we devolve a deep connection with people on the spectrum, we come to know the humanity at the core of who they are as a person. By continuing to reach for their humanity, we truly can FEEL the person whether they are expressing positive behaviors or negative behaviors.
Developing a greater connection creates greater trust. And it is trust that can increase the opportunity for an Autistic Brain to expand its way of processing. Consequently, the person has a better opportunity to live the life that best represents who they are. Being a part of this profound relationship of providing services to people with autism is not only rewarding but also extremely unique.

Interested Families Should
Know
How would you describe a meltdown to someone who has never seen one? Most people assume the word describes a tantrum. You know there’s a difference. You know a meltdown can last for hours. You have experienced autism and its many challenges and behaviors, both positive and negative.
You also know that your child is amazing, and you hope there are others who know it too. We look for staff who understand the importance of developing a strong connection with people on the spectrum for them to gain interest and confidence in learning. Once hired, we look for ways to continue to support our entire staff to focus on the amazing humanity – “The Whole Self”- of each individual.
OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLE:
Some believe that people of the spectrum have a very low intellect and that they can’t learn … so why try?
Why not try and KEEP trying by giving the peson the opportunity to learn to whatever degree is possible for them.
